YouTubeTranslate helps YouTube creators translate the titles and descriptions of their own videos and read their channel analytics. This page explains what data the app uses and why.

Data we access

  • Your Google name, email address and profile picture, to show who is signed in.
  • Your channel's videos: titles, descriptions, languages and existing translations.
  • YouTube Analytics reports for your channel, including estimated revenue when the channel is monetized.
  • Recent public comments on your videos, read only to list viewers' questions in the Ideas page.

The app asks Google for these permissions: read your YouTube account, manage your videos' metadata (needed to publish translations) and view YouTube Analytics reports.

How it is used

  • To list your videos and publish the translations you choose.
  • To translate text: the title and description being translated are sent to OpenAI or, as a fallback, to MyMemory. Nothing else is sent to them.
  • To show your analytics, compare your videos and suggest ideas inside the app.

YouTubeTranslate's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is never sold or used for advertising.

What is stored

  • Your Google access token lives in an encrypted session cookie in your browser. It is never shown to the page or shared.
  • There is no database. Servers keep short-lived in-memory caches (minutes to a few hours) to save API quota.
  • Progress of an unfinished bulk translation is saved in your browser, so you can resume it.
  • If you add more than one channel, the list of channels (with their Google access, encrypted) is kept in an encrypted cookie in your browser to switch between them. Signing out removes it.
  • Your preferences (currency, formats, default languages, glossary) are saved only in your browser.

Your choices

Sign out at any time from Settings. To remove the app's access to your Google account, visit Google Account permissions. The app uses YouTube API Services; Google's handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
